To utilize BrightHearts effectively, users are required to have one of the following Bluetooth 4.0 compatible heart rate sensors:

The app offers an engaging experience by merging real-time biofeedback data with captivating visuals and calming sounds. This combination is intended to foster a state of relaxation while encouraging users to reflect on their body’s stress and relaxation responses. The design aims to help individuals recognize subtle decreases in heart rate, which correlate with the body's 'rest-digest' nervous system reflex.

For optimal use, it is advisable to ensure that the chosen heart rate sensor is equipped with a ‘heart rate variability’ mode (for instance, the Scosche Rhythm+). Activating this feature prior to use is essential.

Upon establishing a connection with the Bluetooth 4.0 heart rate sensor, BrightHearts establishes a baseline heart rate measurement at the commencement of the session. As users engage with the app, they will experience soothing auditory cues such as chiming bells, alongside visual activities like circles contracting towards the center of the screen and colors transitioning from red to blue. The platform encourages experimentation with various techniques, such as muscle relaxation and slow exhales, while also inviting exploration into how emotional and physical states—including thoughts, feelings, memories, posture, and gentle movements—can impact heart rate.
